Immigration assessments

Migrating to a new country can expose individuals to trauma, fear and discrimination. Immigration tribunals require clear evidence of how past events have affected a person’s mental health and how removal or denial of status might impact them. MLUK’s clinicians provide compassionate, unbiased psychological evaluations that support asylum and immigration cases.

We adhere to legal aid rates, and provide competitive rates for private paying clients.

What we offer

Our immigration assessments recognise the profound impact that persecution, trauma and resettlement can have on mental health. We ensure that reports meet Home Office and tribunal guidelines and provide robust evidence for claimants. Our services include:

Asylum and humanitarian protection

Evaluating psychological trauma related to war, torture, persecution or exploitation. We assess post‑traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety and other manifestations of trauma and explain how these conditions impact functioning and credibility.

Hardship and exceptional circumstance waivers

Assessing the psychological consequences of deportation or separation on the applicant and their family. We document stress, anxiety, depression and risk of suicide, explaining the likely impact on well‑being if a waiver is not granted.

Victims of torture, exploitation and domestic abuse

Providing detailed assessments for victims of torture, sexual exploitation, trafficking or domestic violence. Our reports consider the physical and psychological sequelae of abuse and the potential risk of retraumatisation.

Cognitive and mental capacity assessments

Conducting IQ and capacity assessments for applicants whose first language is not English or who may have cognitive impairments. We explain how cognitive limitations affect the ability to understand and participate in proceedings.

Our approach

Assessments for immigration cases involve a private meeting with the applicant, during which our clinician asks sensitive questions about their history and administers psychological tests to evaluate memory, concentration, IQ and mood. We pay particular attention to linguistic and cultural issues that might influence responses. Our reports are written in plain English and explain diagnostic impressions and how trauma, stress or cognitive limitations may affect functioning. We recognise that these assessments can shape a person’s future; our compassionate approach ensures that applicants feel heard and respected.
