Neuro Rehabilitation Service FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our neuro physiotherapy services and how we can assist you.

Neurological rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary service that focuses on treating people managing a neurological injury, illness or diagnosis. The aim of this service is to help patients recover as much function and independence as possible to improve their quality of life.

A neurologist mainly diagnoses and treats diseases of the nervous system (for example, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or multiple sclerosis). A consultant in neurological rehabilitation medicine focuses on helping people live as independently and fully as possible after a neurological illness or injury, often after the diagnosis has been made.

For example, after a stroke:

  • A neurologist may diagnose the stroke and oversee its acute medical treatment.

  • A neurological rehabilitation consultant then leads the rehabilitation process, helping the person regain mobility, communication, self-care skills, and independence over the following weeks, months, or longer.

  • These specialists often work closely together, particularly for people with complex neurological conditions.
